New Crash Tests for Road Safety Prevention
8/18/2010
Experts on the Škoda Auto Traffic Safety Research team have created more crash tests, this time on the topic of the safety of children at the age they start to go to school.

The new recordings show the consequences of a collision if a child is not wearing a safety belt at all, or if an unsuitable child seat is used. A lot of children want to have only a booster seat instead of a proper child seat as soon as possible. During short trips, for example to school, they feel that they don’t need a child seat or safety belt at all.

An impact by a car at a relatively slow speed (e.g. 50km/h) endangers the live of a passenger who is not wearing a safety belt. The video shows a child figurine flying from the rear seat of a car and banging its head against the windscreen. In another video the child figurine is sitting on a booster seat and the video shows the possible risk of injury of the child's neck by the safety belt.

Both videos were made based on knowledge of actual accidents that the Traffic Safety Research team investigated. Škoda Auto is trying to make maximum use of the results of research for supporting road safety not only in the Czech Republic.
